Our mission is to empower children with active creative minds through Dr. Maria Montessori’s influential educational philosophy that emphasizes independence, freedom within limits, and discovery. We create learning environments that will improve skills necessary for success by nurturing the development of the whole child – cognitive, social, emotional, and physical.
At International Montessori, we are committed to spirited learning, growth, development, and fun. Montessori classrooms are set up as prepared learning environments to encourage independent learning through sensory motor activities. Children work with materials that encourage development through direct experience: seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and movement.
HOUSE OF CHILDREN
Our founder Iranganie Weerasuria has been in early childhood education since 1961. She is an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) qualified directress who has observed and taught all over the world. Mrs. Weerasuria has developed her effective curriculum from her extensive experience and education.
In 1965, Father McLesh and University of Texas Professor Jim Steinstrager recruited Mrs. Weerasuria to bring the Montessori philosophy to the United States. She taught in the first AMI accredited school owned by Mrs. Gail King.
Today Mrs. Weerasuria works closely with her directors, Farida Ejaz and Donna Waters, and her Administration Director, Jennifer Weerasuria, to continue her tradition of excellence. She visits her schools often and is known and loved by parents and students.
We invite you to join our rich legacy of learning.

"This school is special for a few reasons. I have 2 girls who both began at 22 months and one was reading at 4, and has since skipped a grade at a local Charter School. More than the curricular strength is the love the Director and her staff show for all the children. Over the last 6.5 years the staff has become more like family to us.I cannot emphasize enough the skill, grace, and brilliance this team shows each and every child that comes through the door. I give IMHC the highest possible recommendation for families who want a nurturing, rigorous, inspiring environment for their children's cognitive, emotional, and social development- beyond satisfied!!!"

"I absolutely LOVE this school. My boys have attended since they were 18 months. There is one class for young/non-toilet trained children and two classes for the older children. All the teachers are caring, hardworking, consistent and well educated. They all practice the Montessori method of teaching and my children have truly blossomed there. I will also say that in the 3 years we have attended this school, only one person left and she was a teacher's aide. All of the other teachers have stayed and are dedicated to teaching at this particular school. It really is a community and each and every teacher truly enjoys teaching and guiding the children. It may not be a newly built, high tech building, but it is perfect because of the teachers. They really care and really know what they are doing. Every year the school puts on a Christmas play where they celebrate all of the different cultures in the world. They all carry flags from different countries and sign songs in many different languages. They also have Spanish and French classes one day a week. I can't say enough positive things about this school!"
